"We'll talk about this away from your type!" Zira snapped at Jasiri.
The hyeena whinced, ears pressing back against her head. Zira's teeth and foaming mouth hung less than an inch from her nose.
She hastily turned away from the group. "Come, Kion."
"Don't go Kion, please..." Jasiri said, eyes pleading.
Kion gave a small lick on her cheek to comfort her. "If we're going to solve this, then I have to. If I don't come back soon, send for the others."
Unease crawled up his hide and throat. Kion, however, held his head high and followed the gray figure wading ahead of him. He looked back at the watering hole following Zira through the path she wound. Jasiri and the other outlanders faded behind the tall ledges and jagged rocks.
Zira led Kion down barren paths and away up cramped ledges. She then slowed her pace, reaching a high clearing. She promptly lay down in the dust beneath a single, cool, shaded tree and began to lick her paws and forearms.
